Intro. to Eng. Experimentation Lab - MEEN 260
The Engineering Experimentation Laboratory is located in Room 232 of the Academic Teaching Wing of the new Texas A&M University at Qatar Engineering building. This space has a floor area of approximately 1,500 ft2. During each Spring semester, a section of the Engineering Experimentation course (MEEN 260) is offered. The enrollment limit for each section is 18. Students conduct experiments in groups of two at one of nine available work stations. The instructor or the teaching assistant uses a tenth station for demonstration. Since all of the experimental apparatus are physically small, space is adequate for the number of students in each MEEN 260 class.
In the Engineering Experimentation Laboratory, students use modern equipment that includes computer-controlled data acquisition systems, as well as auxiliary devices such as power supplies, digital multimeters, function generators, and oscilloscopes. The equipment is updated and new equipment is added regularly subject to budgetary constraints. For any experiment, there is always a test apparatus for each group of students. Students use LabVIEW for data acquisition and real-time data analysis. Additional data analysis and report preparation is generally performed using Microsoft Excel and Word.
Plans for improvement of the Engineering Experimentation Laboratory will develop in the next few years as experiments and technology evolve.
